The general
public may be forgiven for thinking that a sizable
percentage of surrogate arrangements in Britain turn
sour, given the level of publicity that surrounds such
cases. Although COTS fully acknowledge that one such
case is one too many, it should be borne in mind that
the vast majority of successful surrogate births go
unreported.
Around 98
per cent of arrangements involving COTS members have
reached successful conclusions. COTS have now reached a
milestone where we have celebrated our
500th birth in August 2004. These have brought
unbounded joy to intended parents and a great deal of
satisfaction to the surrogates involved.
COTS are
constantly reviewing the
support and advice we give to our members in an
effort to eliminate the small percentage of arrangements
that do go wrong.
